Hello everybody,
In Lofou village, the streets are full of stone... yellow Cypriot stone. The streets are silent and waiting for the travelers to pass and
let traces through the sounds of their steps. The village is full of history
and richness, is full of beauty. People came back to rebuild those old stone
houses. People came back to their roots. Now it is the time of the children to come
and take it forward, to fill the village with laughs and smiles, to bring
happiness and warm the cold stones. People came back and rebuilt the old
playground, next to the old school and now traveler, it is your time to
stop and enjoy it.
Lofou village has a nice little playground right next to the
old school. It is the perfect place where you can stop your car to start let
your children play for a while and then continue with a nice visit in the
village. The playground is sweet, with swings and roundabout, climbing
structures, and tunnels, covered with rubber tiles just finalized in 2015.
Coming from Limassol you will be able to see, the sweetest sign that will guide
you towards it!
You will not get bored, as Lofou is welcoming his guests
with lots of nice, educational places to see, walking trails, restaurants and
wine tasting.
The Folk Art Museum with the private collection of Mr.
Petros is a small but wonderful little
museum for the little ones to learn about Cypriot traditions. The Olive Press
Museum is located northeast of the church of the village and at a distance of
approximately 300 metres. It was manufactured in Lemesos in around the end of
the 19th century at "I. Kyriakides & Co Engineering workshop and
Foundry". It is also a very interesting, educational place to visit.
One of the most wonderful attraction of the village besides
the wonderful playground is the Nature Trail that take you to the traditional
faucet of Elitji. I would recommend this trail for children starting 4 years of
old that have a little bit of walking experience. It covers a distance of about
a kilometer and follows a downhill course towards the traditional faucet of
Elitji, where the villagers of Lofou used to get their water in older times. On
the faucet, which is at the end of the route, there is an inscription dated
1842, which proves the date that the faucet was built.
The trail is located
south of a small stream which flows with water only during the winter months. Here
the walker may admire various species of Cyprus flora and fauna such as tall
shrubs and oaks as well as many herbs. It is the best opportunity for parents
to teach and help their children recognizing the plants and trees in Cyprus.
The ‘faucet of Elitji’. The people of Lofou built a large
tank of water in front of the source. The tank is decorated beautifully with
big windows, from which the residents of Lofou were getting water. The whole
project regarding the construction of the building was completed in 1842.
Today parents and children may go to the ‘faucet of Elitji’
either from the dirt road Lofou – Sylikou, or the walking trail that has been
created recently by Lofou Community Council.
Lofou village is a place where you can have a lovely walk in
a traditional Cypriot village and in the nature, eat some fresh good Cypriot
food, to relax, to enjoy the tranquility, the peaceful location and to admire
the wonderful view of the sea. Wish you a marvelous day with your children in
Lofou!
Lots of sunny days from Izzy the Cypriot lizard !
